Elaine Sandra-Lee Thompson-Herah OD is a Jamaican sprinter who competes in the 60 metres, 100 metres and 200 metres. Hailed as one of the greatest sprinters of all time, she is a five-time Olympic champion, the fastest woman alive in the 100 m, and the second fastest alive in the 200 m. Elaine Thompson-Herah achieved a significant breakthrough at the Rio 2016 Olympics. She not only followed in the footsteps of her fellow Jamaican sprinter, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, by winning the Olympic women's 100m title and keeping it within Jamaican hands, but also went on to win the 200m event. This remarkable achievement made her the first woman since Florence Griffith-Joyner in 1988 to complete the Olympic sprint double. It is noteworthy that these two impressive victories were Thompson-Herah's first in a major international competition. However, her extraordinary accomplishments didn't end there. Despite facing injuries between 2017 and 2019, Thompson-Herah made a triumphant return. She not only defended her 100m title at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, setting a new Olympic record of 10.61 seconds, but also secured her 200m title with a personal best time of 21.53 seconds. Furthermore, she played a crucial role in helping her nation's 4x100m relay team secure the gold medal. Thompson-Herah's record-breaking performances solidified her status as a rising star from Jamaica.
